Who were Thomas Eyre's parents?
« on: Sunday 28 February 10 14:51 GMT (UK) »

Searching for the birth and parent details of Thomas Eyre born around 1812 in Garthrop, though in the 1861 census it states birthplace as Ferry.

He married Letitia Brown from Ireland in Kingston upon Hull in 1836 and whilst his elder sons where born in Gainsborough, Epworth and Hull he finally moved by 1851 to Leeds.

I have located him and his family in the 1814, 1851 and 1861 census then loose Thomas and Letitia by 1871.

Any help appreciated especially the details of his birth and parentage

Many thanks

Is Luddington close enough to Garthorpe?

It seems Garthorpe was part of Luddington parish http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/Luddington/

EDIT: Thomas and Sarah EYRE had at least 2 kids bap at Luddington, then parents with the same names had two bap at Owston a few years later.  Owston is/was often known as "Ferry".  Perhaps your Thomas remembered both places but wasn't sure which one of them he was born at.

They can be found in Haxey in 1841 census and "Braken", Belton  in 1851.

Martha 49 Belton

Braken appears on a modern map as Bracon http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=478500&Y=406500&A=Y&Z=120

A Thomas AYRE was buried at Belton 21 Nov 1854 (sorry, no age)

Thanks Geoff

Will have a look at the website.  I haven't quite worked out how to use family search very well yet from scratch, ok when someone gives me a way in but hopeless doing it from scratch.  Need to read their guidance notes.

On the link I gave, don't put in children's names - just

Father: Thomas EYRE
Mother: Sarah

Bap 1815 +/- 10

Brit Isles > England > Lincs

Take a look at www.freereg.org.uk, on the basic search put in Eyre - Lincolnshire - Owston and you will get a few baptism, marriages and burials. Some of Luddingtons records are also on.
Chapman - Antrim/Liverpool
Harde - Swansea
Lewis - Glamorgan
Eley - Lincolnshire
Guntrip - Acton

Dear Both

Checking out your latest suggestions. Just as I was switching my light off last night I had a lght bulb moment with the info you sent Geoff.  Thomas wife - Sarah Ingram -  it suddenly dawned on me that their second son was named Ingram. The first son was named Thomas and first daughter was named Sarah.

In census for Thomas Eyre (born 1812) his occupation was hairdresser so perhaps carried on the profession?

That sounds quite a good link to me :)
