Bit of a mystery why hes buried there if he was POW? could he have died on way home? maybe worth contacting CWGC for any info?

Some sources suggest missing, presumed KIA(erroneously).
Emp: Gardener to late Geo Hirst, White Lee Grange.
Res: 1, Pearson Street, Upper Commercial Street Batley.
Captured 27/5/1918 held at Freidrichfeld.
From the Batley News 28 September there is a very dark picture of him and also a short story of him sending a letter home from the camp or hospital.
From the Batley Reporter 1 August 1919 in the death notices is his obituary.
If you visit the Town Hall in Batley ask to visit the 1st floor.Just outside the Mayors Parlour is the WW1 Roll of Honour 1914-1918 Joseph is listed in fact there area a number of Steads on the Roll.
