Wow,

I was looking under the wrong stones. No wonder I couldn't find anything. I was looking in England, Scotland & Victoria. And I would never have considered looking in my home state of South Australia.

You have left me speachless and happy.

A huge thankyou, Dee.

Regards
Grantley

The clue for South Australia came from the Victorian death entries, Grantley. Some of them had born in SA.  :D

Might be worth looking up BISA to see if there is any info in there.....do you have ready access?

Yes & No.

There is a copy of the BISA at my local library, which opens tomorrow afternoon.

I have full access to the South Australian BD&M records via the library. The only restriction is access to the computer.

At least you have me on the right track.

Thanks again,
Grantley

Hi Jenn,

Thank you very much for the migration details.

I never expected such success when I posted my original entry.

The IGI lists;
a Colina McLeod, bapt 20 Feb 1832 at Saint Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England plus
an Alfred Edward COBHAM, born 3 Aug 1827, bapt 12 Aug 1830, Ware, Hertford, England.

I think I can swim from here.

Thanks again for everyones help. I am wrapped   8)

Grantley

Grantley,
a search for Cobham at http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home
brings some results for the South Australian Advertiser for your Cobham family.

Thank you Dee,

I know that web site is there but keep forgetting to look at it.

The article dated February 14, 1859 is most probably in relation to the death of his mother, that was registered in the Jul/Sep quarter of 1858 (as per FreeBMD)

Regarding the fine for the unlicensed vehicle, in 1859. Now I have to explore that concept. What vehicles needed to be licensed in South Australia in 1859? More research needed.

Grantley

Grantley, I can't wait till more years of the South Australian Advertiser become available on there. It's amazing the little snippets of information that you find that bring your family "to life". I've found a couple of treasures. Of course, it helps having an uncommon surname (like Cobham) to research.  :D

If anyone's ancestors are in South Australia at that time, it's always worth having a look.

Good luck with the rest of your searching.  :D
