Hill Deverill: DOMAN / HAYTER
« on: Saturday 27 February 10 05:07 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am new to RootsChat. I am researching the family of Benjamin DOMAN b. 1809 Hill Deverill, Wiltshire and Elizabeth HAYTER. They had several children, including Thomas, Emily, and Leah. Leah DOMAN b. 1840 married Job COX and emigrated to Southern Ontario, Canada in the mid 1860s. (I have a terrific photo of Leah & Job)

Any connections?

I'm afraid I haven't any connection but my family came from Longbridge Deverill, which is close by.  As did your family, a lot of mine also went to Ontario.  I understand that at that time soldiers were returning from the war and the town councils paid for the various villagers to emigrate, due to lack of work.
