Swatman baptism
« on: Friday 26 February 10 01:01 GMT (UK) »
I have the marriage of William Swatman and Jemima Cox 1786.
I believe the parents of Jemima to be Edward and Jemima Cox (baptism record 1764 Postwick, Norfolk and siblings baps Edward 1761, Thomas 1766 and William 1772)

I am not sure about William. There is a bap 1759 to parents John and Mary Swatman and a bap 1754 to parents William and Sarah Swatman.

As the parents are not named on the marriage record of William and Jemima how can I be sure which is his baptism?

Hi,

have you checked the burial records  - in 1817 a William Swatman died aged 63 (~1754), he was buried in Elsing and lived in Bylaugh - does this fit?

Hi Junev
Thanks but can't make a connection here.
William's marriage and the baptisms of all his children took place at Heigham, Norfolk. The last baptism was 1799.

Have looked through the burials on Freereg and even tried variations in spelling but not come up with anything else. Haven't found a burial record for Jemima either.

As Jemimas Mother was a Jemima could the only daughter I can find born to William and Jemima be a hint.
Elizabeth SWETMAN, Baptised 05 April 1795, Heigham, Norfolk (Freereg)

Have you looked outside of Norfolk for his christening?
Just because he married and had children in Heigham does not mean he was born there.
I feel for you as it is a difficult one.
I still think the death junev found is a possibility. People did move areas and the age is abt right. Often older parents lived with their children.

Don't know if the area and dates are covered here:
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections;r=1

Have you looked at the original parish registers (marriage and births) in case there is further information such as abode or occupation?

Have you seen this site?:

Hi Trish
Thanks for your reply. Sorry if I'm being dim, but what did you mean by  "as Jemimas mother was a jemima could the only daughter........be a hint"

Yes I have looked outside Norfolk for William's baptism....and just to add to the confusion I've now found another William Swatman bap.16 Mar 1757 at Rockland, Norfolk to parents Samuel & Anne.

I wasn't disregarding junev's burial in Elsing - just nothing to lay claim to (no spouse/son/anything on freereg record) Will keep it in mind.

Hi Ruskie
Thanks for your reply. Have been looking at these sites but not found anything yet.

Did find the scan of original PR of marriage of his son & grandson though. Good site but can't seem to skip through pages - have to load them in order so its slow.

Yes, the familysearch site is slow, but worth it if you find something.  ;)

You can progress faster through the pages by entering a page number. I do this, and go back and forth till I find the year I'm looking for.

I believe some of these registers (not sure abut Norfolk) are a bit mixed up, so if you don't find what you want where it should be, it might be worth checking elsewhere in the registers.

Hi Linda,
What I meant was they named a daughter Elizabeth and she could be named after Williams Mother.
