Wozzle,

Thanks.  Samuel Harris was actually born 1810 in Trowbridge. Samuel married Mary Jeramy (various spellings) in March 1841.  The certificate gives Samuel as a widower and Mary a spinster.

I have early census information re the Jeramy/Jerramy etc. family.  Mary was born c1821.

However, I do not know the name and details of Samuel's first wife.

Thank you.  Rose

shame because there is a possibility there is full details of the baptism of their first child and that would give us where they were living at the time
will try to-morrow if no one else has had a look

phobe harris daughter of samuel/mary ann harris baptised on the 25th dec 1842 at st.john church, hackney
abode at time of baptism; morning lane, hackney. fathers occ; labourer
here is phobes actual birth index entry
phoebe harris
y.o.r. 1842
qtr; oct/nov/dec
dist; hackney
vol; 3
page; 152

i cannot see the other 2 childrens baptisms though in hackney
although i can see what i believe may be their birth index entries in hackney
strange i cannot find their baptisms though
anyway we know they were living in morning lane, hackney in 1842
will see if i can now find the family in 1841

here they are in 1841
transcribed as harrif
1841
HO107/698/6/6/4.
samuel harris age 30. occ. housekeeper. born out of county
mary harris age 24. born in county
living at;bohemia place,st.johns,hackney

so sometime between 1841 and 1842 they moved from bohemia place to morning lane
the only doubt i have is that on this census samuel gives occ; as housekeeper
on the 1851 census he again gives occ as housekeeper
yet on the baptismal record occ is down as labourer
i am certain this is them on 1841 and as certain the baptism is the correct phoebe as well

Hello Wozzle,

Again, thanks for the look-ups.

I confirm that the baptism you found for Phoebe is correct.  I think there is a mistranscription in the 1841 and "house keeper" should have read "horse keeper".  Is it possible you have not been able to find the baptism records for Phoebe's siblings because the family moved between 1841 and 1842 and may have been out of the St John's Hackney parish?  The next child I have on my tree is Phoebe's sister, Mary Ann born c1844.  Information taken from the 1861 census.

Have a nice evening.  Regards, Rose
