Land and Property
« on: Tuesday 23 February 10 22:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello All

My several times removed grandfather Thomas Jarvis wrote in his will of leaving his Estates at Stone to his sons. I am having great difficukty tracing the details of my grandfather and thought tracing the proerty may help.

Can anyone advise how I can trace the ownership of land and property in and around Stone?

Thank you

Robert.

Hi Robert,

I wonder if the Tithe maps for Stone might help you, these may be held at the County Records Office in Stafford. Not knowing the date of this Will, would any of the children to whom he left his estate be recorded living there on any census as an address may be recorded.

Thank you Cathy.

Thomas Jarvis died 1782 at Barcheston Warwickshire. In his will reference was made to leaving his Stone estates to his son Samuel. I believe that the family originated from the Staffordshire from around Stone, Blurton, Lane End or Trentham. If I could find out about the land and property this may well point me in the right direction to trace the roots.

Robert

Hi Robert,

The Tithe maps might help you if the children and their descendants kept the estate as the maps date from 1836.  It is worth contacting the County Records Office and William Salt Library - they may hold something that will help you.

Good luck with the hunt.
