Hello Matt

Have you, I wonder, tried searching for wills? In the course of my research I have found wills to be an invaluable source for the investigation of local and family research.

I see that the record office (Chester) has a will (proved 1772) for one John Davenport of Acton, Woodhay (yeoman).  Possibly a relation! There's also a will - proved much later 1808 - for Charles Davenport of Acton parish.  He was noted as a parish clerk.  And there is Ann Davenport's will proved in 1803.  There may be many more for you to look at which might prove relevant.  You could also look for the wills of people who married into the Davenport family.

Hi Jayson,

I have looked briefly at wills - I arranged copies of two Charles Davenports, the first proved in 1771 (Faddiley) and the second being the Charles you mention of 1808. Though they didn't make much sense to me my girlfriend, who read history (and can read old writing!), went through them both and came to the conclusion that it was unlikely that either were relevant.
I'll look for John's, and others, as there are obviously more out there.

I have quickly followed up on the marriage I mentioned between Charles and Elizabeth Painter that, as Chesters said, occurred in Whitegate. Looking on the Cheshire Parish Database, it shows Charles as being from Middlewich - so theres another route to look down.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Matt.

Hello kwiffboy,

I had meant to ask you where you obtained the details on Charles Davenport's date and place of baptism?

Also, the other source which you might find useful is the Township Information Pack on Acton. There are a series of these, all done by the RO and they are available there. Nantwich library has those that are relevant to that area.

I have found the baptism on the IGI, so assume that is your source.

Just bear in mind that they transcribed the Bishops' Transcripts. Also, that there are many entries on this that are incorrect. I have experience of this myself.
