Thank you. I was hoping someone could tell me whether  RASC when  sent to France were assigned to a  Regiment or were under RASC while in France.  Lookin2

Hello Biggles,
I would love to know if you have any casualty information for my relative Thomas Hamilton who was severely wounded at the siege of Lucknow on the 6th Oct 1857,although other records say he was wounded on the 15th Oct ?
Would you be able to check your records and hopefully clear this discrepancy up?
Regards Jonathan.

Thanks for your help regarding this.My relative Thomas Hamilton was a member of the 84th foot York and Lancasters. He was an original defender at the siege of Lucknow.
I manages to get hold of his discharge papers which states he was severely wounded in the right leg on the 6th Oct although other rersearch suggested he was injured on the 15th Oct.
Could you also advise me with regards to finding out more about the siege of Lucknow, and in particular if  there is anyone you can think of who has specialised in researching the topic.
 Regards Jonathan.

Hi lucknow

I have looked at my records wich  is a book called the casualty of Indian  Mutiny 1857-59  by I.T Tavender but still cannot find Thomas Hamilton which mean it could be a mistake when they were researching the book. The 84th foot were present in India at the time of the muntiny.

Here some website  that mite help to understand  the  defence  hope it helps  you further with the research

www.defencejournal.com/2000/mar/lucknow.htm

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_of_Lucknow_1857

www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1858/02/01.htm

There is also a book  called  The  great mutiny   india 1857  by christopher hibbert.

hope this information will help you further.
