I found my grandmother what a great feeling
« on: Tuesday 23 February 10 13:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I have been looking for my Grandmother sense 2006 and have finally found her what a great feeling it is. ;D Some of you may have seen my posts for Mary Gowan.  She died just after my mum was born 1930 so my mum never knew anything about her other then stories she over heard  as she was growing up. Both Mary and her father lead me down the wrong path.  In the 1911 census Mary's father said she was 15 year' old and on Mary's marriage certificate 1923  she say's she is 27 so both would mean that  she was born 1896  While searching I found 4 children  with the name Gown  but this Mary was born 1893 so I thought it was the wrong one but I know Mary had a brother Harry born 1892 and there was a Henry Gown born 1892 so I  decided to send of for Henrys birth certificate that way I would not be so disappointed if it was the wrong one.   What a geat feeling it was when it came back  to find it was the right one also on the birth certificate the name was Harry and not Herny so I quickly sent of for the other 3  got them back and they was all the right family. I am sure you all know what a great feeling it is when you smash through that brick wall.  Thank you for reading this I just had to tell someone .  Regards Manus

Brilliant!!
I do know exactly how you feel, I only started - aeons back in time - because I wanted to find out about a great-great-grandfather and a non-related great-grandmother, both of whose stories had fascinated me as a child.
Found one, still searching the other!
When something like this happens it makes it all worth while, doesn't it?  Congratulations, just try not to go out in public too quickly - the grin can unnerve people!

I am really thrilled for you Manus! :)  It's such a wonderful feeling, savour the moment before
you get frustrated all over again by another ancestor!

Great news Manus.

It reinforces the old message: Don't always believe the ages you find on Census forms, Marriage or Death Certs.

Dara.

Hi Maggie May

Thank you  My GGrandfather was James Dunne a Farmer from Knocknagapple Gorey  I found his Marriage Certificate.  He Married  a  Margaret Mellon from Monaseed in the Chapel of Kilannin in 1874 and his father was Maurice ?  Dunne also a farmer  This Name has completely  thrown me as there is no one else called Maurice in the family my GGrandfather called his first son William and the next one James (my Grandfather)  and the next son was called John after Margarets father.  I know Maurice was alive in 1874 but I can't find a death certificate for him maybe James was your GGrandmother's Brother ? as I have not found any brother's and sister's for him yet.
Good luck with your search
Regards Manus

Hi Manus,
All I know about Ellen is she was born about 1829, married early 1850's
and died in 1910. I had been researching that side of the family and then
got distracted with my maternal side.
If I come up with anything I'll get in touch.
Regards
Maggie-May

Hi Manus

I noticed in your message that you said you had Byrnes in your tree from Gorey.  One of my lot, Mary Anne Bell, married a John Byrne in Gorey on 4 October 1896.  Both parties gave their place of residence as Gorey.

Any connection with your Byrnes?  Assuming that there is, if you don't already have it I can let you have a copy of the marriage certificate.  I haven't looked into this particular branch any further as yet, so don't know if they had any children or when they died
