I have the registers for Silsden St James church - baptisms, 1713-1898

The closest I found was an Ann Clarkson, daughter of John and Mary of Silsden, a nailmaker, baptised on the 26/2/1801.
Looked at possibles of Anne and Annie too, no luck.

Do you have any other information that will help,-  her marriage, when, to whom and where, might give fathers name.
Any siblings?

Lots of Clarksons in Silsden, any seems that most people who lived in Silsden were nailmakers.

Hello Both

Thank you for your help.

Ann was married to James Gill, born abt 1792 in Kildwick. Their son Dugdale Clarkson Gill was born in Silsden abt 1809.

Dugdale was a nailmaker, so it all fits.

Hi Jackie.
James Gill, son of Jonathon and Mary of Silsden, a labourer, was baptised 3/1/1792, Silsden
Marriage - James Gill, nailmaker of silsden, bachelor, to Anne Clarkson of Silsden, spinster on the 12/3/ 1810 at Kildwick.
This marriage will help disregard the baptism I found earlier for Ann in 1801.

The son you mention, Dugdale, was baptised on the 19/1/1813 at Silsden.  And another son, Jonathon, was born on the 20/12/1816 and baptised 5/1/1817.

Can I ask where you are getting your possible birth dates from?  Do not rely on the 1841 census as they rounded up and down the ages and it is not reliable source.
Do you have other census years?
I can give you more children but if you have this info not much point my searching for you as there are a lot of Gills and Clarksons there.
Happy to help if required.

Hello Margaret

Thank you so much for the info.  Do your records go any further back for parents of Ann Clarkson please ? or James's Grandparents ?

I know the 1841 census details are approx, but I do have census records from then on, and the Gills are well documented in Lancaster, where Dugdale moved to. I also use the LDS search.

His son, Jonathan Clarkson Gill (my G Grandfather) was a ships engineer, and disappeared when the Albert Edward was sank off the Norfolk coast in 1878.

Thanks again,

Jackie

Hi Jackie,
Pleased to help.
Now, before we go searching backwards, perhaps we should try and sort out the family of James and Ann first.
Would you like me to find all the births and baptisms of their children that I can find.
and, if so, do you have a list of names and approx. birthdates please.

As they say - one step at a time.  ;)

Hello Margaret

Thanks for offer. I don't know of any other children of James and Ann, so if you would kindly help again, I would be grateful.

Jackie

Here is a starter.
note, some are only baptisms and baptised at a later date so may not necessarily be in the order I have them.
You may need to check later census to help verify ages.

Issue of James Gill and Ann Clarkson, nailmaker of Silsden.  All baptised at Silsden.

William - bp 6/1/1811
Margaret - bp 19/1/1813
Dugdale Clarkson - bp. 19/1/1813   (not necessarily twins but possible)
Mary Clarkson - bp 24/3/1815
John - bp 14/8/1815
Jonathon - b. 20/12/1816, bp. 5/1/1817
Jane -  b. 9/9/1819, bp. 14/10/1821
Ann - b. 12/3/1820, bp. 9/4/1820
Thomas - b. 20/4 / 1822, bp. 5/3/1826
Jonas Clarkson - b. 15/4/1825, bp. 5/3/1826
buried, 12/3/1826, aged 10 months old, at Silsden
Nanny Clarkson - b.  1/1/1827, bp. 9/9/1827
Grace - b. 2/10/1830, bp. 17/2/1833
