Whaley, Derbyshire
« on: Friday 19 February 10 21:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Does any one know any details about the Black Horse Public House?  when it was built and any publicans, we have found an ancestor Abraham Presley who is on the 1841 census as publican but no public house named, the only one I can find details of is The Black Horse?

Any details would be most helpful.

Hi,

Is this Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire or Whaley nr. Mansfield Notts?

Cannot find on 1841, Census reference would assist.

In the 1841 census many people who were called publicans were actually beerhouse keepers who ran a beerhouse from their own front rooms.  Many of these were not named until much later if at all.

Hi Spendlove

Abraham Pressley or Presley was born in 1785 in Anston, Yorkshire, he married Hephzebah.

It is Whaley nr Mansfield, The 1851 census foe bolsover 3a image 4 or 107/2148 states Publican.

the 1861 also states publican Bolsover again 3 image 3 or R.G.9/2533.

On the 1871 census he is a widow and his grandson is now publican, just realised this one states " the Black Horse".
