Harry Langley missing since 1902/Birmingham
« on: Friday 19 February 10 12:20 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone is able to help me trace Harry Langley and his wife Leah Miranda (nee Smith).  They married at Birmingham Registry Office in October 1902 - she was 20 years old and he was 21.  He was a cable car conductor and at the time of marriage she was living in Hunters Vale Birmingham and he at Belgrave Terace Handsworth.   I have not been able to find them in 1911 census (there is a Leah Langley who died at Pontefract - but I have the death cert. and it is not my Leah); and I have not been able to find them as having emigrated (as far as I can see anyway!).  I am wondering if there are any parish registers on line that I can search?  Any suggestions gratefully received please!

Hi Marjorie,

There's a death
Leah M Langley age 82
Jun 1966 Birmingham 9c 323

Maybe?
Age would tie in with the Sep 1883 birth registration of Leah Miranda Smith

There's a Harry langley on the 1911 census (born abt 1880) in Kings Norton, Worcestershire. The boundary for this area has been changed quite a lot since the early 1900's and was very close to where he was married. I don't have any credits to look further, but I think it's worth checking.

I think Pams Harry Langley is the same one found in 1901 Balsall Heath which at that time was in Worcs. & was in the Reg. Dist. of Kings Norton so looks a good lead but a household search doesn't include Leah.

On 1901 census, Harry Langley is living in Highgate, just down the road from Leah M Smith (and her brother William) in Balsall Heath, so I think this may be your couple.

Brilliant Tati - how did you find Leah's death?   I had completely lost her - it sounds very much as though it is the right person and I am ordering the certificate now.  Very many thanks.   Marj.

Jan - many thanks - I will follow up Alfred - sounds a distinct possibility.

Jim - Thank you for the site address which I hadn't heard of before, I am now going to register with them.
