Harry Langley missing since 1902/Birmingham

Pam  - Unfortunately Harry Langley in Kings Norton is the wrong one - married to someone else - but thanks for the lead.

Your comment re :  Harry Langley at Highgate excited me but Leah did not have a brother called William (only Edwin my g/father).   However her sister Beatrice married a William Smith!  I thought I had found Leah in 1901 a servant at New Hall Farm Aston Warks, but will try and find the one you found at Highgate - isn't that in London tho'? I have had trouble finding  Leah, Beatrice and Edwin and another sister Lizzie in 1901 as the family split up following their mothers death and then their father's in 1894 - and I think I traced all of them in service in difference parts of B'ham.

There's a highgate in Birmingham slightly north of balsall heath. Also, leah and william appear as sister in law and brother in law, so I might have been making a wrong asumption about them being siblings.

No, unfortunately Harry Langley in Balsall Heath is the wrong one as he is with his father and he is the wrong father - should be Alfred Langley - as Harry and Leah's marriage cert.   I thought life was going to get easier once I had my Smith's married off - but I am having just as much trouble with Langley! - but thank you so much for your help.  Marj

There's a Harry Langley b.1882 Smethwick which is also in the Kings Norton Dist. Father Alfred & Mother Ellen/RG13/2818/106/19.(1901 cen.)
1881 cen.RG11/2959/65/25
1891 cen.RG12/2362/20/33
Smethwick now in Staffs. is north of B'ham bordering All Saints Ward & famous for the M&B Brewery.
Bearwood Rd. where they are living is now in Warley part of the Harborne Dist.I know I used to live there.

PS. just out of interest Hunter's Vale is on Soho Hill & Belgrave Terr. is on Soho Rd. about 1/2 ml. away.
Beawoood Rd. to Hunter's Vale you go down City Rd. along Dudley Rd. to Spring Hill,down Icknield St. onto Soho Hill,easy when you've got a horse & cart.

Hi Jim  - thank you VERY much for all that info. - which is really a great help and, I think, is the right Harry Langler.  Thank you for the info. on locations - I have found difficulty with the local areas and what counties they are in!

The Leah Smith I found in 1901 shows her as born in Smethwick (alto' her birth cert. says 'Bacchus Road B'ham - maybe Smethwick area?) - so presumably this is where she met Harry.

Also Leah's sister's birth cert. shows she was born in Soho Road Handsworth/West Bromwich.

I haven't been able to find the Leah M Smith in Balsall Heath 1901 census that Pam refers to - but will keep trying as I need to ensure which is my Leah.

You obviously know the area - do you know of North Western Terrace Nuiton(?) Place, Handsworth?  I have a photo post card of Leah and her sister (or it may be her two sisters) sent to her brother (my grandfather).  Unfortunately although it was written it hasn't been stamped so I don't know the date.   I imagine early 1900.

Just found Leah B on 1901 census - not sure tho' she should be 17, and haven't yet worked out the relationship, if she is the sister of the wife - she is not my Leah.

North Western Terr. is off Newton Place which joins Soho Rd. as it runs into Soho Hill,it's on the opposite side of the road to the other two addresses.
Re. the photo I suggest you scan it back & front & put it on the photo restoration & dating board,there either me or someone else will date it for you.For going on with if the card has a centre bar dividing the card it's post 1902.

Bacchus Rd. joins Lodge Rd. ( Winson Green [All Saints Ward] ) which is the boundary road at the rear of Winson Green Prison & All Saints (then) Asylum.North Western Terr. is just up the road,from Bacchus Rd. along Benson St. over Park Rd. into Factory Rd. & Newton Place.

The post card does have a centre line and the stamp area reads 'Half-penny Stamp Inland Penny Stamp Abroad'.  Unfortunately my printer/scanner has died on me so I will get my son in law or grandson to scan for me next time I see them, as I would love someone to possibly date is for me.   The card is from my grandfather's sister who married in Stavely Derbyshire in 1904.

Thank you also for all the location info - it is all coming together thanks to you - it doesn't sound as though it was a very nice area though.   When I get five minutes I will draw myself a little map from your info. showing all the relevant locations!
