Went back to look at the 1841 census

The description of where Octavius and Elizabeth are living is listed as "Middle End" looked at Harlestne with Google maps and it is tiny.

They live next door to a butcher and a tailor so I think they must have lived in the village and not out on a farm.

In the Eunumeration description the census area was as follows:

West of Earl Spencers Wood Yard bounded on the East by Harleston Park and on the west by the Hamlet of New Bottle

If you scroll down you can read the description of the village look for Harlestone (St Andrew) Earl Spencer is mentioned and so is Newbottle.

In the 1851 census

Elizabeths place of birth is Kislingbury, Northamptonshire.

I dont have any access to these parish registers so you might want to place another topic on this board to see if someone can look there for Octavius and Elizabeths marriage.

In 1851 Octavius and Elizabeth have a granddaughter Elizabeth HEWITT living with them she is 1 her place of birth is Great Billing, Northampshie.

Joseph, Mary and Suzannah are still living with them too

Only marriage I dont have info on is Elizabeths so she could have married a man named ? HEWITT in Great Billing. Edited to note: Dont have Catherines marriage either

Octavius Kids in 1851

Lucy is married to William York he is a blacksmith
they are living in Upper End
with 3 children John, 7, William, 6, and Arthur 3

William is married to Patience he is a Carpenter
they are living in Upper End
with 3 children Rebecca 7, Patienc, 5, and Augustus 1

Cant find Catherine or John

Ann is a servent in the house of William and Mary Elliott

No address for Octavius and Elizabeth, Mary still lives with them there is no job listed for her.

They also have another grandchild with them this time John Hewitt age 8.

Lucy and William are still there with William 16, Arthur 12, Catherine Ann 7, Thomas 4, Elizabeth 1

William and Patience are living in "New Cottages" Rebecca 17, Augustus 11, william 9, Alfred 5, Sarah Ann 2, Enoch 10 months, and Patience a granddaughter 4 months. (I cant find a baptism for this little girl so I dont know who her parents are)

Patience their daughter isnt with them

Cant find John, Catherine or Ann - but I havent looked very hard

Octavius and Elizabeth are living with 2 grandchildren

John Hewitt Grandson 18 Ag Lab
Ada York Granddaughter 13 Scholar b St SepulchreGot that wrong Ada is a Son - presumed because of name oops

Lucy is living with her son John his wife Mary M and Thomas listed as Brother (of John). Lucy is listed as a widow. Cannot find a burial for William and there are 4 deaths registered that could fit on Free BMD.

William and Patience are there with Alfred 14, Sarah A 12, Enoch 10, Rebecca 10 granddaughter (Patience had a name change I think) Elzah 6 and job 2.

Lucy was buried 18 June 1872 so we wont find her in any more censuses.

Octavius was buried 22 Oct 1879 and Elizabeth was buried 26 March 1880.

John Hewitt married Elizabeth Dunkley on 21 Oct 1877. John Hewitts father is listed as John.


1881

William and Patience are there with Job 12 and Albert 9

John Hewitt and Elizabeth are there. John is a carpenter. 3 children Ellen 3, Esher 1, and Elizabeth 5 months.

I hope Octavius and Elizabeth were well enough in their last years to enjoy eithr great grand daughter

John Hewitt is Catherines son I have just found his baptism

Catherine and John Hewitt are his parents

Just found Ada Hewitt - he (yes he) got married to Elizabeth Wymer. His father is John Hewitt too.

Brothers ? Whatever happened to the parents cant find either of them?

Found Catherine Hewitt in 1851 Census

Married to John living in Great Billing with children Ann 3, Asa (son) 6mths and father of John - John Hewitt

oooh I forgot all about Joseph who married Sarah

found them because I went looking for Elizabeth Hewitt. She is living with Joseph and Sara in 1861 with their children Fredrick Bub 1 and Mary Ann 1 month.

Wow I could right a book about this family. A family I knew nothing about when I logged on to Rootschat this morning.

Thanks Newbe for giving me the chance to walk a little while with this very close knit family - wish they were mine I've got rather fond of them.
