Hi Lady Grace,  Have just returned from a visit to Mickfield (and other parts of the UK).  St Andrews Church restored and functioning.  Sat on pews dating from 1380 where our forebears sat.  If you do a search for Thomas Bacon of Winston 1609, you will find several sites that give his parents and siblings, but I haven't found a spouse yet.  No further trace of Mary Bacon, except the marriage record from another contributor to this topic.

Hello Yi, Also visited Coney Weston (church open, records available), Hopton (church open), Market Weston, Barningham, (last 2 churches operating but locked), Bury St Edmunds, Knettishall (church renovated as private home - my Linge line came from Knettishall: Wm Linge (1806) m Susan B'field (1804, bap 1807)).  Many gravestones stolen while Knet church was in disuse, but found 2 Linges.  Mickfield was great: open 7 days, services 7 days, independent of C of E, v friendly retired lay reader in charge,  has records from 1588).  In Mickfield, church is about the only place to park! At all places most gravestones earlier than early 1800s too weathered to read.  All a long way from home in Australia: maybe will visit again in a few years' time and stay longer.  Stayed in hotels at Bury St Ed and Thetford: didn't have my laptop for finding accomm and B&Bs a bit sparse in that district.  HowardJ

Hello Howard, that all sounds so exciting to me way  :)over the other side of the world, lucky you, I do so love the mood and character of old churches, hope you took a lot of pics, pity the gravestones were too weathered to read that could have been interesting, thank you so much for sharing that with us, sounds just all so great, to walk and be where our illustrious and not so illustrious forebears lived, loved and died..marvellous stuff ..Thetford had that come up in our Family charts anywhere? I don't see to recall..yes odd no info  for Thomas Bacon who married our Anne Bloomfield, if he does connect to us that family it  goes way way back past the Blomvyles  they have a great lineage....thanks Howard enjoy :)

Hi Howard,

Thanks for the info - sounds like you had an interesting trip - and from so far - puts me to shame when I'm only a 7ish hour drive away and havent been yet!

I am currently looking through all the addresses/properties the Blomfields owned and hope to go and visit some of them and spend time in Stonham and Mendlesham which is where my family are from.

Hello all, I am a newbie to RC, but finding great info. Thanks. My link to Mary is through my wifes family. Mary is her 10th.GGM coming down through the Bloomfields, to Barkers,Sheppards,Buckley. This is the furthest back I have been able to go on her tree, so the data from you guys is fantastic. We also are based in the Antipodes, (Victoria Aust.)so would love to catch up with any "locals". I know this is an older thread, but hopefully someone will catch this new post.
