Hi,
If anyone ever does answer your question in the affirmative, and they are a direct male line FAMILTON descendant, you may care to send them along to the newly formed FAMILTON/FAMELTON Surname DNA Project.
Overview of the links involved at:
http://dnasurnames.info/p6.htm

Happy to post an outline pedigree, and researcher link (email addresses encrypted), on the project pages.

PS should this be in the Roxburghshire forum rather than Fife?
PPS my interest is in seeing if the very few assorted FAMILTON lines might be proven to be genetically connected. My lot are the weavers of Earlston, Berwickshire

Hello Lorna,

I see you are in Waikanae, I am in Tauranga. I have had a look at your Familton line and not sure which one you tie into??

My Grandfather was Philip James born 1888 youngest of 10 children of William and Maria Familton, he was born in Hampden where a lot of the Familton family lived when they first came out to New Zealand. Do you have a copy of the book "The Rock from which we Hewn" by John and Alex Familton? Will see if I can find your group in there.

Bye for now
Carole
PS No males on my Grandfather's family, only two daughters.

Hi Carole,
(I thought  you were going to be Jennifer).
Yes,  Alex kindly sent me a copy some years ago.
I tried emailing him this week, but the email I had bounced.

It mentions my lot in passing, but a couple of us think there has to be a connection, and would love to prove it.
Follow the link I put in the earlier message for my weavers of Earlston.

Obviously will have to try harder and widen the search if you only have females down your line though!

Regards
Lorna

Hello again,

I think the Familton's from USA tie in too somewhere don't they, I guess my two brothers are too far removed for testing aren't they?

I didn't know Alex had a computer.............last time I spoke to him he didn't! Moving up in the world at long last.

What programme did you use for your family tree?

Bye

Hi Carole,
Might have been a different Alex of course, I didn't check the book, first I'd have to find it again.
Things on my computer I can find again reasonably easily, paper files are another matter entirely!

The Alex one I was in contact with was from Palmerston (the real one, down south).

Re DNA testing, sorry, but it does have to be a direct male line FAMILTON descendant, and from what you said there is only a female line of descent for your lot.

Re family tree: I use TMG (The Master Genealogist) (coupled with SecondSite to help me build my webpages).

I've been through the assorted message board posts, and Genes Reunited, and selectively targeted a few likely individuals who may be interested.
Think one was an Ohio, or possibly Illinois? line.

Hello Carole. I'm just sticking my oar in to say hello, as I am a rellie and longstanding correspondent of Lorna's, and Familton is one of the lines we share.

Also, I have corresponded with two people in your home town of Tauranga who (separately) have ancestors from my home town in Fife. Indeed, one of them is a retired doctor who was brought up in the house opposite my granny's.

Hello Harry,

Which retired Dr is that then? We have lived in Tauranga 40 years so I may know of him.

Which line of Familton are you on? There are so many being a large family.

Nice to hear from you.

Carole

I suppose we shouldn't really mention somebody's name without their permission, but he is a retired consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist, and the last address I have for him is Shearman Grove.

Like Lorna Henderson, I am descended from an Elizabeth Familton who married John Runciman in Earlston, Berwickshire.
