Hi All,
Thanks for the replies.
Firstly there would appear to be two Shalfords, essex near Braintree and Surrey near Guildford. I am interested in the Surrey one.
Lizdb, yes thats her. I have her on the census returns until 1891, although it took some doing as they where missed transcrided as Bearsley, kersley etc.
Unfortunately James was the last born in 1840/1841, Richard died when James was about 9 months old. I cannot find any birth index for James Kearsley (1840) or parish entries for sister Sarah Ann (1835) online, although I have marriages for both, but no mother mentioned! Sarah Ann I beleive was born in Tower Hill/Tower of London & James in Westminster St Margarets.
The only conclusion I can come up with is that as Richard was in the Grenadier Guards at the time it was a military wedding/baptisms etc. Although I think I have exhausted the army births, the Grenadiers may be a special case. As Richard was from the Manchester area I haven't ruled that out, but again can't find evidence to support it. Hence the Sarah angle and Shalford. Its starting to get frustrating, but I am not going to let it go.
Rosie99 I will have a go with the Surrey History centre.
