Help in identifying regiment
« on: Tuesday 16 February 10 10:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Hope you can help.  I'm researching my family history and have a photograph of Walter Hooton, a bandsman in the British Army during WW1.  Can anyone help in identifying the regiment.  Thanks for your help.  John

In the second pic, dating to the end of 1918 or thereabouts he's wearing a medal ribbon (probably the 1915 star).
That's good news as there should be a MIC for him. This is the best match:

The cap badges are a bit indistinct but the badge on the bass drum seems to clinch it. Looks promising.

Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

Looks like the Bedfordshire Regiment to me - background of Maltese Cross, hart or stag in centre, curved title beneath.  [Beds & Herts from 1919].

Thanks to both of you for reply.  Looks like you are right as the National archives link you sent identified the Bedfordshire Regiment.

Thanks, John
