Forster marriage in Gateshead 1820
« on: Monday 15 February 10 14:56 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone please look up the marriage of Grace Forster to Robert Gray .

They were married on the 27th August 1820 in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear.

I am trying to find out the parents of both Grace and Robert.

Any help would be appreciated.

Janet.

Hi Janet

Welcome to rootschat.  ;D

Marriages this early do not usually have fathers names on.  Bishops transcripts for Gateshead are available to search on http://search.labs.familysearch.org/

Hi

You need image no 420, this shows the witnesses as Jonathan McAllister and James Reed - James Reed has witnessed 3 other marriages on image 420

Hi Janet, welcome from me too   :)

There is a baptism for a Grace Forster, but whether she is your Grace I don't know:

Baptisms, Gateshead District
Ryton Woodside Congregational Church
1 Oct 1800 Grace Bell Forster, of Lemington, born 28 Sep 1799, daughter of Collingwood Forster by his wife Sarah

do you have them in the 1851 census showing birthplace?  The marriage states both were 'of this parish' which just means they were living there at the time of marriage, not that they were necessarily born there

Going by their ages in 1841 census if I found the right ones, here's a possible baptism for Robert

Baptisms, Gateshead District
Ryton Woodside Congregational Church
25 Sep 1780 Robert Gray, of Ballast Hills, born 9 Sep 1780, son of Thomas Gray by his wife Margaret

Hi Janet

thanks for your pm.  You can download the marriage image for yourself from the familysearchlabs site using the link Rosie gave, click on Durham, then Gateshead 1812-1823, then on page 420 as she said.

For copies of the baptisms you would need to get in touch with Durham Records office, as the Ryton baptisms for those dates are not included in the Bishops' transcripts online, unless someone reading this is going there and can get copies for you

Kind regards
Barbara
