Just to let you know i've received the service record I ordered in the post today (22 pages)  ;D

It's dated 7/4/2010 & cost $16.15 of which $7.00 was postage.  My credit card has been charged £10.83 so it's worked out about 49p per page & as my local Archives charge 50p for printouts i'm happy with the cost.

Cheers

Jay

Hi Jay,

Thanks for letting me know, again I am so jealous!!  It does sound quite reasonable - no more than the local archives as you say. I ordered mine on 28/2 so it looks like i've got a while to wait  :P. Oh well, they will get here when they do. Patience is a virtue etc.....

Hope you got lots of interesting info.

Hi everyone,

I was at Library and Archives Canada last week looking at WW1 files...was very exciting  :)

The librarians told me they get over 1600 requests a month, but they try their best to get the requests out in 30 days.

For WW11 files, the are currently working on November requests.

Blimey Karen 1600 requests a month  :o :o

Going off the dates on this thread Vida ordered hers 10 days after mine so shouldn't have to wait too much longer for them  :)

Good afternoon,

I have ordered a number of service records files from the LAC and despite the number of requests they get, I have never waited more than a couple of weeks fo get my order :-) It shouldn't too long of a wait for you now.

Yippee !!! the service records I ordered have arrived!!  ;D ;D ;D I am so pleased as I thought they would be delayed because of the ash cloud affecting airmail.

Sooo interesting!!  There are 48 pages including a copy of my rellies temperature chart from when he was in hospital with influenza in early 1918!!

Hi Vida,

Glad to hear your ancestor's service records' delivery was not delayed. Some of the records are quite thick and have stacks of good info. It sounds like yours is one of those. Happy reading.

Pleased to hear yours has arrived Vida, now i'm jealous of your 48 pages  :D  Tho mine signed up 3/5/1915 & was KIA 2/3/1916 so I guess it depends on the length of service.
