Stephens and Stevens
As there are loads of parties interested in West Firle Stevens' on the Genes Reunited site, you really ought to look there under both spellings of the name.
For example, between 1854 and 1885 there are 18 different first names of members of the Stevens family to choose from and 8 different people researching them.
OOpse I tell a lie, only 17 names, Ruth born 1859 is mentioned twice.

If you go back a bit further in time, the spelling of Stephens with a 'ph' becomes more frequent and 6  researchers all have George Stevens born 1832 in their family trees

Hi,
Thankyou for your reply.  I think my line is Richard, George, Thomas, John, Joseph, John Stephens.  My g-grandfather John Stephens emigrated to Australia in the mid-1860's and went to the copper mining area of Moonta, South Australia.
I still have many blanks in the family history but am gradually getting it together.   There are some Stevens in amongst the Stephens.
Thanks for your advice.

If you could give me your John's approximate year of birth, I could tell you how many of those on Genes are researching him in particular.  Its not a secret is it?

Your best shot on Genes is a Heather Drew that has a John Stevens born in West Firle in 1830.  Roy G
