Hi
It looks as if both John and Henry named their sons after the same person - probably their father (Scottish Naming tradition) and if your grandmother married the RHS with parents Henry and Maggie, this is your man. Your Kirkcaldy born RHS was probably your Grandad RHS's cousin.
Here are the births of the only [five] Scottish RHS's of marriageable age in 1938.
1906 ROBERT HUNTER SMITH M CAMLACHIE GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/02 1670
1909 ROBERT HUNTER SMITH M LEITH NORTH EDINBURGH/MIDLOTHIAN 692/01 0290
1910 ROBERT HUNTER SMITH M MUIRAVONSIDE /STIRLING 486/00 0108
1913 ROBERT HUNTER SMITH M KIRKCALDY AND ABBOTSHALL /FIFE 442/00 0047
1917 ROBERT HUNTER SMITH M MUIRAVONSIDE /STIRLING 486/00 0038
Was your Great Great Grandfather a Robert Hunter Smith ?
