You can also work out when the weddings took place.  Charlotte was still a Hedges at her brother's marriage, so she got married afterwards but on the same day.

It adds a little more anyhow.

Ohhhh Jenny ...I feel so bad, as it was I, who suggested that they might be cousins.  :-\ :-[

I wonder if the marriage with the hedges and bibby girl would be worth ordering ?

Deb
Don't you dare feel bad. You have done so much and worked so tirelessly to solve my queries and it has been so confusing for us all. Better to know that not know. Any way I should have checked my records before ordering and I would have noticed. It really is no great loss. It is also great to see my Great uncle Henry's marriage Certificate and to see his marriage was immediately before his sister Charlotte's It must have been a lively day for them to both marry on the same day.
You are right about ordering the others could I ask you to pull the details forward so I can order them ;D

When I went to double check the details I noted there was also this...Do we know who Priscilla HEDGES is. Note also the George BIBBY. I wonder if they married.

Marriages Sep 1894

Cotton  Andrew     Rochford  4a 710
Hedges  Priscilla     Rochford  4a 710

Also Ordered the death Cert. of James HEDGES born 1815. Well at least I think it's his death won't really know until it arrives. Eek. Worth a try.

Hi there-  I am not quite sure if this is what you are looking for, but my great-great-grandmother's name was Albey Hedges, and she married Alfred Cumbers, and was located in Romford, Essex & Herts.  She reportedly was a traveller, but that is all the information that I have on her.  If she is related to the brothers, please let me know, as this would help fill in some gaps.  She had about 12 children and seems to have given birth to Elias (1885) in Tralon, Kent, Eliza (1887) Southend-on sea, and Olive (1891) & Alice (1892) in Flamstead, Herts.  It would be wonderful to know more.
Hi
This is first time I have used Rootschat so basically I do not know what I am doing but I shall give it a try.
The Elias you have is my granddad but to confuse things on his birth and death certs he was Alfred but the rest of the time he seems to have used the name Elias. He was born in Teston Kent and died in Romford in 1957. His mother I think was called Alvey and not Albey and this seems to be logical since my grandad's daughter was also called Alvey.

I Keith good to hear from you. You managed to post with no problems. Feel free to have a practice on here, we are very understanding.
So Elias was Given the name Alfred I never expected that. Are you able to confirm his birth date and date of death for me.
Just wondering how you are managing to understand the thread. Are you able to follow it.

Hi Jenny
I am very much groping in the dark with this whole family history thing. It seems that most of the ancestors used a different name to their given name and grandad's wife used the surnames Yelding and Hilden at different times. My uncle told me that this was to avoid the taxman.(not that any of them paid a penny in tax in their lives.) Granddad was born Alfred Cumbers on 14th Sept 1985 at Teston near Maidstone in a traveller's caravan and he died on 2nd July 1957 at Elm Road Collier Row. I presume that Alvey was related to your Hedges as they all seemed to be Licensed Hawkers and travelled from place to place together. (This is what my Uncle told me). I have not been able to find any BDM certs for my grandad's siblings Olive, Alice, Phyllis and Henry so if you find any info on them I would be pleased to know. I haven't got as far as going back to the Hedges side yet but I might get there eventually. Which of Alvey and Alfred's children is your ggrandparent?
I am going around in circles so I haven't got as far as drawing up a family tree but I shall get there eventually. I cannot really follow the threads very well but was it you who mentioned the Old Rose and Crown.? I would love to know where it was as my Dad was born there but I never heard it mentioned when I was living at home. ( long time ago now)
Thanks Keith
