Heinrich Wilhelm Michael Bodeker
« on: Sunday 07 February 10 10:16 GMT (UK) »
I believe my great, great, great grand father Heinrich Wilheim Michael Bodeker commiteed suicide shortly before his son Charles Horatio was born in 1864.  He died at Newington Causeway, Southwark in Aug 1864.  Am trying to locate any newspaper reports or inquest reports saying what happened.  Help please !!! :o

No not yet.  Only found out yesterday that he killed himself.   He died on 17 Aug 1864 but on his sons Charles Horatio's birth certificate he was down as being deceased.  Bit confused before Charles was born on 23rd July 1864.  Why would his dad be classed as dead one month before he actually was!!

This would just be based on the information given by the informant of the birth.  If the informant was Charles' mother, perhaps she's been abandoned by Heinrich and thought it looked more respectable to say he'd died.  Who knows?

This looks likely to be the death registration for Heinrich:

What date was the birth certificate actually issued? his birth could have been registered after the father had died- think at that period you had something like 6 weeks to register a birth. Perhaps father's death and child's birth were registered around the same time.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Good thinking.  Register of the birth was done on 27th August.  10 days after Heinrich died.  Thank you.  Poor women.  Bad enough having to give birth let  alone your hubbie killing himself.  Drastic!!
