Hi and welcome to rootschat :)

Do you have his birth cert.?  This would show his parent's namesand his father's occpation etc.

The 1871 census would show wher he was living at that time , sibling's etc.

Do you know when he was married and to whom?

Bit hard to guess how much info you already have. ???

charlotte

Sorry to be so vague.  Am new to family tree!!  Charles was born in July 1864 , one month before his father Heinrich Wilhelm Michael Bodeker comitted suicide.  Am really looking for any newspapers clippings or any info as to why he killed himself.

You're doing fine- we've all been newbies ;D

It's almost certain that the local newspaper for where it was he committed suicide would have an item on this.  As you know the date of his death you could ask the Local Studies Library near wher the deathpwas to look up the papers for you... email this requests.
There would also be the report of the coroner's nquest...The Library could tell you how to access this.

sorry to be so thick but where do I e-mail for the local studies library.  On the death index the district is down as St George in the east.  All other info says he died at 20 Albert Place, Newington Causeway (Elephant & Castle) Southwark, Surrey, England.

Who would I need to contact do you think?
