LLLannon Marriage Registers - Mainwaring
« on: Friday 05 February 10 11:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi Cas and anyone else who can help

I'd be very grateful for any information about the marriage of  Edward Mainwaring/Manwaring/Mandry/Manry, who married Mary prior to 1821 when their son Thomas was born in Brynteg, Llannon.

According to a member-submitted record on the LDS International Genealogical Index (which can be unreliable!) there is a marriage of Edward Manwaring to Mary Williams in Llannon on 16 May 1815. However I can't find this listed in the Dyfed Marriage Index on Free Genealogy Online. The Dyfed Index lists a marriage of Edward Mainwaring to Mary Owen in Llanedi in 1813, but I think that these are not mine.

My Edward Mainwaring was born c1788 and Mary c1799, both in Llannon. They lived at Brynteg near Tumble, and were non-conformist by religion.

Any help would be much appreciated.

With thanks and best wishes

date of the marriage is right, but it's the following year - 1816, Edward being of Llangennech & recorded as Mainwaring.

Dear Osprey

Thank you very much indeed for this. I've been stuck on the early life and parentage of Edward Mainwaring for a long time and the information you've given about Llangennech provides a new lead to follow. Until now the only information I had about his origins came from the 1851 census, which gives Llannon as his birthplace.

Does the marriage entry give any other details - the church, witnesses etc.? My Mainwaring branch has proved very elusive so any evidence that might help trace them would be most welcome.

With many thanks again

Moni

The marriage would have been in the parish church of Llanon. but I have no details of witnesses.  You could get a copy of the parish entry which would show them from the archives in Carmarthen

forgot to say, he was of the parish of Llangennech at the time of marriage. To become 'of' a parish could take as little as 3 weeks. It doesn't mean he was born there. I'd trust what he gave as his place of birth at a census.

Dear Osprey

Thank you very much for the clarification and for the leads you have given. Fingers crossed, this information will also help me to track down Edward's baptism record and parentage too.

With thanks again and very best wishes
