Finding Dutch ancestors

For anyone lucky enough to have Dutch ancestors – I say this being half Dutch, so I could be biased! – you will find an amazing amount of information on the Dutch national database Genlias. For those of you for whom the language may be a bit of a challenge, it is also available in English - http://www.genlias.nl/en/page0.jsp.

I married a Dutch man so his family tree was easy,
If you have Family from Brabant this is also a good site where people have done the research already.

I am half-Dutch and speak the language fluently, so no problem there.

Haven't found any ancestors in Brabant though.

I have come across an excellent list of useful Dutch sites. compiled by Eric Hennekam.   Although the document is in Dutch, the section at the end on provinces and the website links is relatively easy to follow I think.  Anyway I hope this link works for you http://www.rhcl.nl/data/files/algemeen/Websites%20Genealogie.pdf  There are a number of very good sites listed, some of which will let you download certificates at no cost.

Google can help considerably too, since there are many detailed Dutch family trees accessible by this route.

I searched the name of a random ancestor and I've already found his occupation, death, spouse, everything!

to use this site you need to find the record then scrowl down to which archives it is being held at, you can then pay to have it downloaded. It is easier to also use the Google Translator toolbar so you can change it to the language you want.
