Deadfray Houses - Where are they located
« on: Sunday 31 January 10 08:22 GMT (UK) »
I've found my 6xGGrandfather Robert Slater born abt 1697 at Deadfray Houses and christened at Holy Cross Church Ryton. He married and continued to live at Deadfray Houses with his family until he died in 1753.

Can anybody please tell me where Deadfray Houses were located

or could be Detfare Houses.

If you do a google search for Detfare Houses there is a link to a post in Rootsweb archives regarding these

Yes I'm reasonably sure about Deadfray Houses - that's what's given on the Durham Records Online Website for Robert Slater baptised 1697, buried 1753 - both events at Ryton  and the place of abode said to be Deadfray Houses. There are a number of other baptisms for Slaters also for Deadfray Houses
However after searching Google for Detfare and Delfare and reading the subsequent hits I'll accept that Deadfray is probably incorrect! It still doesn't help me to pinpoint where this place might have been on a map of Ryton. I had hoped that William Bourn might have mentioned Deadfray/Delfare/Detfare in his History of the Parish of Ryton but I haven't found anything yet!

Thanks for the suggestions and I'll keep looking
