Poland - Subjinski & Wasicki
« on: Saturday 30 January 10 00:52 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find my Polish ancestry past my maternal grandmother Sophie M Subjinske-Laing.  Trying to find relatives past both her grandparents.  Her paternal grandparents were Marion Subjinski born 1871 in Poland and Alexandria.  Her maternal grandparents were Margan (Marion) Wasicki born 25 MAR 1874 in Poland and Mary Ann born about 1874.  I'm having difficulty with any Polish roots.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

hello

try these spelling changes:

Sophie = Zofia

Subjinske = Zubczynska  (there should be a little line above the n)

Marion = Marian

Alexandria = Aleksandra

male/female endings. (example) Zofia zubczynska - Marian Zubczynski

If Mary Ann was Polish, she would also need a change in spelling. Marianna

you might find more info about name changes in other Poland related threads.

edit: Sobczynski/a might be a possibility.

Unfortunately, the usual advice applies - you must find out whereabouts in Poland your ancestors came from before you can undertake any research there.

You may be able to find out from sources in UK depending upon whether they or their children etc were the ones to come to this country - i.e. census, naturalisation records etc.
