Immigration date.
« on: Thursday 28 January 10 13:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi.

Wonder if any body could help me find when this family came to the US from Scotland. Or point me in the right direction

Ellen Devlin m. John Latimer in Edinburgh 1869. They had Mary Ann b. 1872 and William b. 1874.

On the 1900 census in New York, Mary, age 26 who had married Henry Kemp, age 21, says she immigrated 1884. On the 1830 census she says the date was 1888

I don`t know if she, Mary, always told the truth, her age changes on each census. Most likely because he,Henry, was several years her junior.

Would like to find if it was only Mary, or the whole family who went to the US

Thanks in advance.

Mary

Hello Mary
Found this one...but name of wife is different.

Arriving NY, 27 Oct 1883, on "State of Pennsylvania"

LATTIMER,
John, 39, b Scotland, stableman
Margt (27? line through it), b Scotland
Mary, 11 1/2, b Scotland
No William with this family.

Worthy of consideration if John had remarried or if Ellen had a middle name. :)

Hi Grub.

Thanks for answering.. No I don`t think it`s my Latimers. The father, John Latimer was definitly born Ireland, though he married Ellen in Scotland.

Mary.

The only one coming up is the one Grub suggested.

Hi.

I havn`t considered this ,will see if I can find a possible death for Ellen, between 1871 and 1881,  on Scotlands People. The age for Mary Ann definitly adds up. Born 1872.

Thanks for all help.

Mary

Hi Dettori.

Have just found Ellen Jane`s death, age 25 in 1876, St.Giles, Edinburgh. Thanks ever so much for your help, didn`t have a clue she had died.

Have run out of credits on Scotlands people but will get some more and download the death cert. May be able to find something about William as well. Possibly he has died too.

Thanks for your help too, Grub.

Mary
