Hi Maria:

I'm not sure that I can find any records, but would you know his approximate date of birth and place of birth, please?

Could anyone please help I would love to find out about Mggrandfather

William Sutton born in Liverpool Uk anywhere between 1869-1889, whent to live in Boston MA about 1911. He died between 1945-50 in Boston.  Probate researchers where looking for relatives of this WH sutton around 1950 so I am assuming he had no family.  Would love to find out about
Immigration
Marriage
Death.
?will

Are there 100's of probate researchers In Boston? The Lawyers must have known he had family in Liverpool to come looking.  At the time my GF had no proof he was an heir  as he wasn't sure of his real name.

Awaiting in anticipation for a miracle

Maria

p.s would love to correspond with someone in MA to help me on my Quest.

Dear Lisa,

I believe he was born in Liverpool Uk, he fathered my GF in 1909 so I am assuming he was born between 1870 -1889 I suppose they could father some one right up to aged 70 hahaha, he went to live in MA about 1911 and died between 1945-55.

Sorry I haven't much to go on

Best wishes Maria

Hi Maria:

I don't see a passenger list for a Wiliam Sutton, born Liverpool, arriving between 1909 and 1914.

I am assuming you were told he left England when your father was about 2 years old?  Do you know if he eventually settled in Massachusetts, or if he left England with the intention of living in Massachusetts?  Final question: is there any chance you might know his occupation, please?

Any clues might help find him on census returns or passenger lists (which would help determine his date of birth).

Hi Lisa,

Hope you are well, firstly thanks for this, I found on the Library Ancestry, that a William sutton went to Boston 16th April 1911 I'm assuming its him,

 Some Background

My Grandad B 1909 (Known as Joe Russell)
My Dad 1935           (Joe Russell)

Right Lisa this is where I confuse you!!!!

When my dad was about 15 therefore 1950, they went to our Local Newspaper as a Legal Notice appeared looking for Relatives of a William Sutton, who had been in Liverpool between 1909-1911 he had been a hay dealer and carter??Died Boston MA, as this was an estate matter. Therefore i assume he died between 1945-50

It asked for anyone to go to a local Lawyer to resolve matter.  The Lawyer need proof, as my GD didn't have proof that was the end of matter. My GD was orphaned aged 9 and went to an orphanage but his half brothers looked after him who were called Russell so he went through life with this name.  His Aunt had told him his father was sutton and had gone to US. As he didn't know his real name he never had a birth certificate. Over the years I have researched for it and have now miraculously found it.

His Name is William Joseph Sutton, father William Sutton fathers occupation, a hay dealer and carter, therefore I believe this man in US is his father there are too many similarities.  I am assuming the man in US had no next of kin to come looking for people in LIverpool.  I would also love to know if he left a will.

As i'm in UK i'm finding it hard to locate any info.

Sorry for all that,

 best wishes

Maria

Could it be 6th April 1911 on the SS Cymric ?

Thats the one I thought, its the only one around the presumed dates.

Do the actual records give anymore details than the name of individual.

regards Maria

Hi Maria:

Thank you for the added information.

Regarding the passenger list:
Age 28, male, single, occupation: Builder is lined out and above is ? (cannot read it); last permanent address was England, Meaboro or Me?boro, Mother Mrs. Sutton, 138 Clayfield Ave, ?, Me?boro.  William going to Duluth, Minnesota.  (The person above William, George Wilkinson, was also going to Duluth.)  William was born in Sheffield, England.  5'6", light complexion, blue eyes.  (Actually, blue is written in the hair column, but there is nothing in the eye column, so they probably meant blue eyes.)

Also, George Wilkinson is going to his sister(?), ? Roberts or Robertson, address looks like Virginia No. Minn.  William Sutton's destination was the same, but she is listed as friend.

Hopefully, someone else can read the entry better than I can!
