Dunnington or Walmgate? Alice Taylor
« on: Wednesday 27 January 10 16:47 GMT (UK) »
My Great Great Grandmother Alice Taylor was most likely christened on 28 Sep 1875 at Stockton on Forest Parish Church. There are two Alice Taylors born in York in 1874-5, one in Dunnington, one in Walmgate.

From what I can see from census districts, Stockton on the Forest was in Walmgate but the 1875 birth is in Dunnington. The 1874 birth is in Walmgate, do you think this is a safer bet? I'll be able to tell whether it is the right one once the certificate comes as I know she was illegitimate and I know both her Mother and Father's names from various family records, but I don't want to buy extra certificates unnecessarily!

Thanks for your help.

If she's a granddaughter of Ann (possibly a daughter of Ann's daughter Margaret?*), she's in Stockton-on-Forest in the sub-registration district of Dunnington, aged 5, in 1881: RG11/4729/57/12.

You can request a checking point on a certificate order (e.g. mother's name is Margaret) so that if the certificate is the wrong one you get no certificate but a partial refund.

* I see from the IGI baptism entry that her mother was indeed Margaret.

Yep,
That's the IGI reference I thought was the right one as well. That's a good idea with the checking point. I haven't done that before but it's probably a good idea in this case.

Thanks for the help.
