Hi John,

I have some further information about the Agombar family which may be of interest to you.

In my research I have found further information  about my GGrandmother Emily Martha Agombar's family.

I have found the following:

Jacob Agombar born c1600 m Marie (Unknown)
His Father was Jehan Hagombart (the family name before it wasn't possibly due to the persecution of the Huguenots) born c1564 m Francoise Malfoun
Grandfather Jacob Hagombart born c1540 Spouse unknown
GGrandfather Jehan Hagombart born c1519 Spouse unknown
GGGrandfather ?? Hagombart born c1498 died c1560.

This is not 100% confirmed but based on information from various sources I believe it is. I hope that I can confirm much of this next year if I can get to France during a visit to the UK.

Jim

Hello Jim

And thanks for info - ref France - a lot of their Archives are now on line - and Free - it is the Departments that hold them, so first you need to know where the person that you want to know about comes from , then about what date they were around i then you want the Etat Civil - this gives hatches matches and dispatches and they use the terms
Baptisms marriage et inhume.

This could keep you occupied until you get over, and give you some groundwork.

Best

John

The Jean-Paul & Chantal Rœlly website is an excellent free reference for northern French Protestants, especially émigrés in the 1600s. The site has a good index, which currently shows 52 Hagombart entries, starting at this address: http://www.roelly.org/~pro_picards/prop/ix48n0.html#20903

Access to the Huguenot Society publications is freely available it various places across this country - I used to use the one in Westminster when I started out on my quest, but I cannot now recall the address!

Let me know by Private Message if you want to be in touch by email...
