PS

I don't know any more about Red Sykes, but Red Sykes Farm is just off the A66 and even closer to the old road, just befor Threlkeld even though it's technically outside the Threlkeld boundary.

They would have had to cross a large wild terraain to get to Matterdale church, in an area which is also high up and has more than it's share of highly inclement weather.

Hope you find more.

Best wishes

Hi Emms, thanks for the information, I take it that I should also take into account the Gillbanks' who were Baptised etc at Threlkeld. Although it helps sometime that our ancestors gave similar names to their children, it also means a whole lot more problems sorting out who belongs to whom, when there are a few brothers, cousins involved. Regards, Jim.

Hi Matterdaleman.

I wondered if that was your  web site.  thank you very much for all your work.  We've used the old one loads and I'm keeping an eye on the new one.

It's a shame so many sites closed.

I'm still settling on a home to relaunch mine.

Thank you again.

Best wishes

Emms :)

Hi MatterdaleMan, thanks for the links, I have already joined your site (JimboGilly) enquiring after William, and am hoping Greame will respond, he may have some clues there.
I think the couple are the Williiam and Mary, so that means William, being born just 13 years after Thomas's son Isaac, and born at Red Syke must be the son of Thomas' younger? brother. Does that make sense?
I now do not think George was the son of William of Red Syke as he was born 1741, and William married 1747 and is described as a single man, although does that actually mean bachelor, could William have been married before?
after all he was 43 years old.  Regards, Jim.

It is my experience that "single man" means unmarried and never having been married i.e. bachelor.  Otherwise he would be shown in records as "widower"

Hello again MatterdaleMan, yes it would state widower, can't think why I missed  that. Thanks, Jim.

Hi all, really really cheesed off, have got the details of the Threlkeld Church Records Roll number off the familysearch site, only to find that the Mormon History Centre in Liverpool has now closed down, so there are now none in Merseyside, nearest one is Manchester, and am unable to get there. Gggrrrr.
