re Sloss family

Hi,

I am new to this!!  I have been researching my SLOSS family for some time.  My GG father was Moses Sloss born Ballinderry by Moneymore, Londonderry, Ireland  1/01/1837.   I am searching for info on his mother, either Rose Anne Mitchell or Mary Mitchell.
She appears to have died as his father Moses Sloss  remarried a  Margaret Davis and went on to have quite a big family.  They all
emigrated to Australia from Scotland early 1850's.

Moses snr parents were James Sloss and Nellie (Ellen) Howard.

My Grandmother was Mary Mitchell Clara Harvey, daughter of James Henry Harvey and Esther Sloss.  Esther was the daughter of Moses Sloss and Elizabeth Raimon and Moses was the son of Moses Sloss snr and Rose Anne Mitchell. 
She was named Mary Mitchell Clara, the Mitchell from Rose Anne Mitchell from her gr.mother whom she never met..
Yes Moses snr married Margaret Davis when Rose Anne died and they had another 8 children together. 
What is your connection to Moses? 
Hope that has helped and message me if you need any more info.  The Sloss tree on the igi site has errors so be careful what you get as it may be flawed.  I thought the reason for them coming to Australia was one of them was caught stealing a sheep and so the rest came to be with him.  But I can't find evidence of that happening..have you heard anything of that sort.??

Thanks so much for your reply.  I am related to Moses & Elizabeth (I have surname Bowman) from their
son Othel who travelled to Kalgoorlie with his brother Joseph.  Moses jnr came over as well and lived and died in West Aust.  I have copy of his death certificate and on it was Mary Mitchell as his mother.
I have Esther on my tree and marrying James Henry Harvey, but haven't looked any further.  Did Esther stay in Victoria?
 
Othel married Eliza Jane Peach in Victoria.   My Grandfather was their eldest son Moses (another one).

I was interested in finding out about Rose Anne Mitchell  and where and when she died.

I haven't heard anything about sheep stealing!!!

Hi Lynley,
I don't have anymore details about Rose Anne Mitchell but hope to find out more.  It would be good to get their marriage certificate, did it state where Rose was born, my information has Maybole Ayrshire in Scotland circa 1817 and from what I know she died in Scotland before Moses came out here. 
I have more information but it will take ages to write it all.
Do you live in Western Australia?  I live in a suburb of Perth, perhaps we could catch up and discuss the family tree and exchange information. my email is (*) if you are not local it may be easier to email.

Hi Merlfitz,

Yes  I do live in  Perth.  In the northern surburbs.  Yes it would be interesting to have a chat about the family.  Not sure how to go about it.  I gather we can't exchange email addresses on this site.   From the message on your post we have to use Personal Message.  Have you used this before?
