« on: Tuesday 26 January 10 01:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Eliza King b. Loughborough approx 1823, father John King.
Eliza married John Cartwright, don't know where or when.
They had a son James b. Lansborough approx 1850.
Continued their family in Australia from 1852.
Look forward to hearing :)
Cheers
Kerry

Thanks Suz,
This does indeed look like the King family.
Any sign of JamesCartwright  b. Lansborough? I see he wasn't listed in he 1851 census although his death  in Aust. lists his parents as John Cartwright and Eliza King. Maybe born after census 1851?

John Cartwright's death lists his parents as James Cartwright and Rebecca Wells - 1851 census indicates he too was from Loughborough - any trace of his earlier beginnings?

Thanks - It is wonderful to ge such help and this gives me much to work with.
Cheers :)

Hi Suz,

Thanks for the info. re. James.

No I'm not certain that they were in Australia from 1852 on, but have birth lists of children to John and Eliza Cartwright in NSW from 1852 onwards. There could have been another John and Eliza producing children in NSW, in the same area during this time, I hadn't even considered that. Am I tracing the wrong family? :(

When James died he was registered as being born in Lansborough. The others, whom I thought were siblings did not indicate a UK birth.

I also noted in the 1841 census that Mary and Thomas were both aged 20 and Eliza and John both aged 15 - could they have been two sets of twins? Wow.

Thanks so much..
Cheers, :)
Kerry

Hi Suz,
I've been thinking and thinking ... is there any sign of a birth for Elizabeth Hannah Cartwright round about the same time as James 1852 - 1860 or indeed, any other siblings? Perhaps they were born in England along wih James.
Elizabeth Hannah is my direct line, but her marriage cert. says birthplace Chernwood, NSW. Is there a Chernwood in the UK near Lansborough/Loughborough?

Cheers,
Kerry

Hi Kerry,

On the 1841 census the ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 years so it is unlikely that the siblings listed are twins. When I first started looking at my tree I was startled at what I first took to be triplets in one of my families  :)

Loughborough is in the Borough of Charnwood. This takes its name from Charnwood Forest which is an upland area in NW Leics roughly bordered by Coalville, Loughborough and Leicester. I am not aware of an actual village etc by the name of Charnwood/Chernwood or similar.

I had a quick search for births of Elizabeth Cartwrights in Loughborough between 1850 and 1860 but none came up. You can search the birth, marriage and death indexes yourself for free at www.freebmd.org.uk

Hope this helps
Brie
