William Foster
« on: Sunday 24 January 10 22:37 GMT (UK) »
Hello All - I am currently looing for a man called William Foster - I believe he was born in Parsons Drove Cambridgeshire in aboout 1841.  I can track him to the 1901 English census which has him living in Gedney Hill Lincilnshire where it appears he has lived for at least 20 years. His wife's name was Elizabeth and his parents were Isaac and Sarah.  After this I lose him.  Hoping someone can help me track him down.  Several of his siblings came to Australia so we are keen to find him.  Many thanks Ken

Hi Geoff - thank you - sure looks like him - still in Lincolnshire and is the right age.  I guess the only way to be sure is to send for the death certificate and I am not sure how to do that from Australia.  Ken

Geoff has given you the reference you will need.  Death certificates here do not give much information though.  Not as good as Australian ones.
You could also check the 1911 census for him.  It is pay per view and we cannot do look ups but the index is free to search and you can glean a lot from that.

Ken, if I have the correct William Foster he is shown as Widower on 1901 Census - Blacksmith - b. Parsons Drove?

I have sent you a pm with some other info.

The nearest 2 marriages I can find on Freebmd:

William Foster/ Ellen Parker
Sept 1901 / Holbeach
Vol No: 7a / Page No: 840

William Foster / Susan Sutterfield
June 1904 / Holbeach
Vol No: 7a / Page No: 943
Did he marry his Housekeeper Ellen?

Ken, Andrea & Geoff, so you can see where I am going with this:

William Foster / head Widower / 60 / Blacksmith      b. Parson Drove, Camb
Ellen Parker / single / houekeeper / 33                    b. Hagthorp, Lincs
James William P. Foster / 8 mths                               b. Gedney Hill, Lincs

Possible Marriage
William Foster / Ellen Parker
Sept 1901 / Holbeach
Vol No: 7a / Page No: 840

Possible Death

Hope this is of some help to you.

Looks good.  I should think he will be under Parker.  Have you tried that?

Possible Death

Ellen Foster / age 33
Dec 1901 / Holbeach
Vol No: 9a / Page No: 237

The 1911 census index suggests this may too be a factor
Births Mar 1902
FOSTER    Charles        Holbeach    7a   409

(although why he wasn't registered along with Ellen's death I don't know)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Geoff, I had noticed that, but got myself into a bit of a pickle this afternoon.  Thought I would wait until Ken came back online and see what his comments were.  Thanks for adding that.
