John Maxwell of Keady c.1809.
« on: Thursday 21 January 10 19:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone I am new to RootsChat and hope that someone might be able to help.  I do not have much information to go on and what I have comes from a deed dated August 1809 for the townland of Ballinacraig, between Lord Viscount Kilmorey and James Maxwell of Market Street, Newry. The deed gives permission for a house to be built.

It records that John Maxwell of Keady is the father of of James Maxwell and that James is the father of William Hamilton Maxwell b.1792.

I know quite a lot about W.H. Maxwell but nothing about John or James can anyone shed any light on them please?

Thank you.

My gggrandmother was Margaret Maxwell who married Jamed Kelly in late 18th centurt. They were muslin manufacturers in Glasgow and after the death of James, Margaret and her 12 surviving children migrated to South Australia. We have just located some information that suggests that Margaret Maxwell was a native of Lurgan in Co. Armagh.

Is there any possibility that she is connected to your family.

No I don't think so but I know so little other than what I have posted that I can't be sure.

Thanks for your time and I'm sorry I can't help.
