Elgin County obituary request Boozey
« on: Thursday 21 January 10 11:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I have a close ancestor who emigigrated to St Thomas Elgin County in 1907 and died in 1952.  He set up a shoe repairing business and I believe became a prominent citizen.

I have found him listed in early st Thomas papers for marriage in 1908, birth of his daughter Ivy Edith in 1910. but no later references  online.  There was a picture of Him with his partner Samual Stollery in St Thomas Times Journal  Christmas section 21 Dec 1908 page 5 col 4. Does anyone know how I could obtain a copy of this, preferably from the original Photograph?  I have had no luck searching in the Newspaper's archives.

I would really like an obituary of him from 1952.  Obituaries of his parents Elizabeth Boozey d1929 and William Boozey who died 1917. And especially any pictures of them.  I have no idea what any of them looked like except their daughter Ivy.

They are all buried in St Thomas Cemetery West Avenue EL 580 so I think he died in St Thomas.

I would be extremely grateful  for any help.

Thank you

Hi Valerie

I did a bit of digging and came up with a couple of websites which should be of help to you. You may have already

searched the first one but here goes.

www.elginogs.ca/newsindexes/index.htm  which will do research for a fee. Just enter Boozey in the search box

click onto the first listing which includes all of their holdings.

You could also contact the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness site for Ontario at www.raogk.org/ontario.htm

Good luck,

Lilybell

Thank you Lilybell
Thank you for the info.  I hadn't thought of the RAOGK but it is worth a shot.
The problem is that they don't appear to have indexed the STTJ after 1950 to date so no Boozey entries after 1939 yet.  I will keep looking!

Thanks again

Actually it looks as though the death for Wm Sr. was May 20, 1913

William Boozey, May 20, father of William John Boozey and Mrs Herbert Morley ...Funeral May 22 mentioned later on...

There is an engagement of a daughter:
L  Wightman, son of Charles Wightman to I. E. Boozey, daughter of William J. Boozey

Marriage William Boozey to Miss Mansill 1908 http://sites.google.com/site/elginbranchogs/Home/ancestor-indexes/newspapers/st-thomas-newspapers/stj-1908-mar-apr

If you really want the one obit for him, it would be worth the small lookup fee.

You can get a photo reprint of good quality from the actual newspaper ( they also do lookups into paper but more expensive)
