Greenaway Avenue, Hamilton, Ontario
« on: Thursday 21 January 10 02:08 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody help please......  My Great Great Aunt and Uncle, Jack and Annie Rowley, were  listed on my aunt's NY Passenger List entry as residing at 14 Greenaway Avenue, Hamilton, Ontario in 1954.

I believe Annie was born in Warrington or St Helens, Lancashire around 1880 but I have no idea if Jack was English, Canadian or when he was born.  My aunts told me that Jack was a carpenter/joiner who had his own business and made furniture.  Both of them died in Hamilton in the 1960's but I do not know when or where they are buried.  I do not even know if they had any children.

Since my aunts and mother are deceased I have not been able to find out anything else about Jack and Annie Rowley and except for the bits of information my aunts gave me and some old photographs I have no information about them.  I am really hoping that someone may recognize the address and be able to help me get some information either from city records or directories or whatever else might be available.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Kay

Do you know if they married in England or Canada? What was Annie's maiden surname?

Hi Jacquie

Sorry I forgot to mention that I have no idea where they married.  Annie's middle name was Vernon and maiden name was "Harper" (Annie Vernon Harper born about 1880).   Her parents were Robert and Esther (nee Dixon) Harper.

I have only been able to find Annie on the 1881 census in Eccleston, Lancashire though her parents show up right through to 1901 and her sister Esther also does (born 1870).  I can't find a birth record for her either.  She had another sister named Anne born 1868 who also shows up only on the 1881 census.  I have puzzled as to why they called one daughter Anne and another Annie.  I have even wondered if the census taker made an error and my Annie's surname was Vernon and not Harper but I have not been able to verify this.

Thanks Kay

Did you ever get the birth or marriage certificates found in this thread to prove or disprove the relationships suggested?

Hi Debbie

No - still have not been able to locate any certificates to "verify" Annie Vernon Harper's parentage.

Thanks for all who helped.  I have found Jack Rowley married to a different Auntie ancestor.  He married Mary "Polly" Ball and not Annie Vernon Harper so that was what was confusing my searching.

Thanks again,
KayP
