Name of 'Meroe'
« on: Wednesday 20 January 10 11:02 GMT (UK) »
Following many many months of research I am still looking for any help with my search for my ancestors, Meroe (and a variety of spelling). I think John Meroe was a 'batman' to a British Colonel who returned from the Hindu Kush in India around 1840 with my relative. Whether John Meroe was born in India or Dublin is unclear but he died in SDU in 1877,  poverty, the Liberties, TB and malnutrition, unfortunately an all to common story. Any suggestions or help much appreciated.

Thanks for that, Hopefully it will be worth a go. I have tried many variations of Meroe, but not McRoe. Thanks again

You could try www.fibis.org (Families in British India Society) - great website for searches.   I found my g.g. grandmother and others.  They can also help with research at the India Office of the British Library.
Good luck.
