Beeston Parish Church Baptism register

I have a copy of my late uncles baptism certificate. It is from Beeston Parish Church, the date is August 17th 1944, as he was 8 at the time and had 2 younger siblings at the time I was wondering if they were baptised at the same time. His Father is named as one of his sponsors and as we know he served in Africa during the war we were wondering if he was home on leave at the time.

Are these records on CD anywhere, or are the records searchable online?

No one else on the family seems to be able to remember, any help would be greatfully recieved.

Hi Lucy, if nobody has the records inperson I can pop into Beeston library one morning as they have them, but just not sure if as late as 1944. My local library now has a cut off point earlier than that for parish records.

Hi Lucy, the library website says the cut off point is 1950, so we may be in luck if needed.

I'll wait and see if anybody has the records at home first.

Sorry I should of put the names down. My uncle was Charles David Thornhill. There were 2 children younger than him at the time so I would expect to see John Roger and Janet Muriel.

Do you know if the Sponsors names are recorded on the records or just on the Certificates?

Hi Lucy, the parish records just give the names of the parents.

I'm not sure if this family belongs to you, or if you have seen it. The Churchyard section has a photo of the grave of some Thornhills as well.

Hi Skewy, 

I am aware of David Hallams site. It was this site that sparked my interest in my family history. I had only gone looking for some information about the town my Dad was born in and found how popular the Thornhill name is (here in Scotland it is quite unusual), and so began our story. We are related to the Thornhill mentioned here but I am afraid as the story continues down through the generations we emerged as the poorer side of the family
I am hoping to make my first visit to Beeston later this year
