Mt Moriah Cemetery Philadelphia Look Up Please
« on: Sunday 17 January 10 06:51 GMT (UK) »
Have 3 ancestors buried there & one "missing".  If someone is able to do a lookup for me please, would be greatly appreciated.  Presume this lady never married and is buried with her parents & brothers.  Was unable to locate a "contact" for the cemetery directly.

Burials confirmed are:

Henry John Distin buried October 14, 1903 at Lafayette Vault, Mt Mariah
his wife - Jane Distin buried June 28, 1907
and their son
William Henry Distin buried July 26, 1907

They had a daughter Eleanor (spelling sometimes altered) born 1865 in Marylebone, London.  In the 1900 USA census she is listed with her parents & brother as being single, spelling is Elanor.
Haven't located a death for her anywhere & can't find her after 1900 census.

Is she buried with her parents & brother?  Presume Jane Distin is also in the vault, not sure about William though.  The family were famous coronet (horn) makers in Phillie.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Debra

It's Mt. Moriah Cemetery and it came up on a thread here recently.

Have you checked Philadephia deaths on LDS Pilot Site (goes up to 1915)-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you

I read the posting for Mt Mariah you mentioned and have PM-ed John.  I also tried the family pilot site previously & did so again but with no luck.  The others are all there but not Eleanor.

kind regards
Debra

Perhaps Eleanor died outside Philadelphia then? or married after 1900 census? have you checked Philadelphia marriages on LDS Pilot site just in case she did?

Yes, no luck.  Also tried all records at Ancestry but nothing, last time she is  mentioned is 1900 US census.
also tried a search of the Ancestry USA site for Eleanor born 1865 England but nothing came up that could confirm our Eleanor plus those who did had middle christian names which ours definitely didn't have.

thanks for the suggestions, every little bit helps.

bye for now
Debra

Debra:

I see that in 1900 Jane had 8 children, 3 still living.  Do you know where her other child was living in 1900 and 1910?  Perhaps Eleanor moved near her sibling by 1910?

After reading the previous thread posted above by Lisa I was wondering what has led you to discount the marriage record of Eleanor to Charles Schnell in 1907?

You stated the last time she was mentioned was in the 1900 Census and yet she was also found living with  Charles Schnell on the 1910 Census living in the same house where you state her mother died.

Hi dentony

Thanks for visiting the Mount Moriah website http://mountmoriah.info/  As you can see, it is a website maintained by contributions from people around the world.  I would appreciate it if you, or anyone else, would consider joining the site and contributing new biographies, or adding to existing biographies, about persons interred in Mount Moriah.  It sounds like your Distin's were contributors to the overall fabric of the city of Philadelphia, which increases the importance of the cemetery.

With regard to your inquiry, it looks like you have more work to do as I was able to find some information about your ancestors; and some of the info contributed by others to this thread appear correct (such as the relationship between Eleanor & Charles!).

One of the things to keep in mind is variation on spellings; initially I didn't find some of your ancestors until I tried some variations.  Here they are; note that the date is the date of burial.

Regards,

John
