Does anyone knows if records are available to search regarding civilian volunteers who went to fight from Glasgow (and Ireland) in the American Civil War?
They fought on both sides.

I know from 1861-1865 dozens of ships are listed as Clydeside Blockade Runners. Information is available on them.

Any info on the men who fought available?

Thanks for those sites Pat.

My understanding was that the people I seek left Glasgow and Ireland as civilian volunteers and went to fight with the side of their choosing when they landed in America.
 
Then returned home as civilians.

There is some information on this site - a Civil War Memorial in Edinburgh (but unfortunately nothing on the west coast)

For those interested in American Civil War - Glasgow connection there is a very interesting 13.26 minute radio broadcast on the Paddlesteamers Iona 1 and 11.

They ran the blockade from Glasgow for Confederates and both sank in Scottish waters, Iona 1 in Clyde.

I Googled - Paddlesteamer Iona and found Archaeocast 12 as first hit. It has the broadcast which is very easy to listen to.
