Hi Billy

Selina and Bertie's marriage cert which should be available to view on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk would let you confirm their parents' names so that you can be certain when researchin their families. Have you got Selina's death cert, as this would also help you confirm her parents' names?

There is this possibility for example on the 1901 census - everyone showing as born in Glasgow:

William Bell 44, upholsterer
William Bell 23
John Bell 17
James Bell 19
Mary Bell 20
Agnes Bell 14
Selina Bell 11
Annie Bell 6
Margaret Bell 5

Address: 35 Harlaw St, St Rollox, Glasgow Port Dundas

From the Bell family's 1891 census entry at 45 Kyle St, St Rollox, Selina's mother is showing as Agnes born in Glasgow c. 1860.

There are a few possibilities on the 1901 census for Albert/Bertie Richardson so it would be best to confirm via his marriage cert his likely birth year and parents' names  :)

thank you monica for your reply and research                                                                                                                                                                 unfortunately there would not be a marriage certificate as they were not married....as far as i know bertie richardson was married to someone else at the time and had other children in that......my gran, selina bell died giving birth to my dad ,born 25 may 1927...my dad was called ...william bell richardson.....a lot of the other names certainly match up to a point .....i know  that selina bell had sisters called annie and agnes and a brother called james but the others i dont know, but that  may  be just down to my lack of facts, selinas sister agnes died in glasgow on 6 may 1969...she was married to frank hailstones at the time, they had been married for over 30 years...prior to their marriage agnes had a daughter callede agnes(nessie) who died  age about 16 yrs old in the early 1900,s(1920 or about)

Billy

Have you looked for Selina's death certificate on Scotlands People? If you are certain she died following giving birth to your father, her death should be under the surname Bell after his birth date. Scottish death certs inlcude full names of parents, including mother's name.

There is one possible death showing in 1927 on SP.
