Smith and Fraser @ Daviot and Dunlichty
« on: Monday 11 January 10 22:30 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on an Alexander Smith of Daviot in Inverness-shire who married a Catherine Rose about 1796. They would have lived in the period from 1770 to 1850. They had 5 sons and 2 daughters. Their oldest son, Andrew (1797-1874) married Catherine Fraser in 1826, daughter of John Fraser & Marjory Rose. John and Marjory had 8 sons and 2 daughters. They lived also from about 1770-1850 and also at Daviot. The parish records at Daviot may have been destroyed by fire but I'm hoping someone knows something of these 2 families.

Thanks ghostwhisperer this was a big help. I believe that 'Achavaneran' is a farm or place but do you know if 'Achlaschoile' is also a farm or place?

I would imagine it was a Farm or Estate.

Excellent work ghostwhisperer.   :)

Rodger,  both your adresses can be found by going to www.old-mpas.co.uk - you'll get the postcodes from there.  Achaschoile is at IV2 6XG

If you use the National Library of Scotland maps site using their 6" to 1 mile maps at

http://geo.nls.uk/os6inch/google.html

Zoom down to just south of Inverness where the road junction of the B861 and B851 meetat Tombreck.  Change to 'historic 'view   and go about 1 screen to the north - slightly east.  You'll come across Achaschoile.

If you're having problems please get back to me.

Regards,   Steve

Thanks for youre help Steve. I've gone on that site and found Tombreck. I've changed to 'historic' and moved north and slightly east but am unable to find Achaschoile. It's probably right in front of me but I can't see it, but I'm sure I will find it.
Regards Rodger

No problems Rodger.  Blame my explanation...

You've got Tombreck.  Just to the west there is a palce called Balnafoich.  Follow thre road up from there - under 'historic' - you come to a Mill dam.  A relatively short distance to the north and west of there - still to the west of the River  Nairn is Achlaschoile .  (on the map spelt with 2 x ll's).  Good luck.

Regards,   Steve   :O)
