I have a grandfather on my mother's side for wom I have been searching for over 10 years now.

I have all but given up any hope of finding his birth record or knowing who his parents were. Is it possible that psychic research may help?

This link to a post on the Irish Cork forum sets out the situation:

He was known as "Jack" Hamilton

Please help me Obiwan, you're my only hope.

I occasionally find that when I going through documents on ancestry, that  get a feeling that *this one* that I am opening is the right one.  That feeling has never been wrong.  It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's right.

Hi,

I'd love to experience that, I have often 'felt' that an ancestor was going to be the right one or been drawn to a particular name when scanning through something - unfortunately my instinct has been wrong every time so far   :-\ I am, perhaps, not as 'in tune' as I'd like to be.

Rachel

I was searching a graveyard for a grave a few years back, not the most logically set out graveyard, the numbers didnt seem to correspond to any system I could work out!

I was getting tired, frustrated & cold looking, and as I often do I was muttering away at myself.
I remember quite clearly saying "I'm sick of this now, why do my family hide away & make finding them so **** Difficult .......... will you just give up and SHOW me where you are **** hiding cos Ive had enough now!" (I told you I was fed up!)
I walked on a little bit more, n then I tripped over something put my hand out & when I looked down at the grave i steadied myself on I was standing right beside the grave I was searching for - and right beside it was another family grave I knew nothing about!

LOL needless to say I was totaly amazed, and not a little bit shaken up!

I could do with something like that at the moment.
Some time ago now, I found some information on someone elses tree which stated that Mary Craigs' father was Alexander Craig and that she married Adam Forbes.
In the last 2-3 days I have actually found her daughters birth certificate which proves that Adam Forbes was indeed her father, but whilst he was already married and she was Illegitimate.  Mary Craig was in Clatt Aberdeen, The Alexander Craig I mentioned was in Lanark and married a Margaret Booth there.  So I am still no closer to finding Alexander and his wife, whoever she was and there are so many Mary Craigs born between 1720 and 1821 its unreal both Lanark and Aberdeenshire must have over two hundred of the bli.....rs

Hi again,

I just had to search out this thread again because I've been really astounded at a discovery made today whilst looking through some 1939-1945 Civil Defence records put online by the Hull History Centre.  Repository: Hull City Archives / Collection: Registration of personnel for Civil Defence Service

circa 2002 I made a visit to a phsychic and my notes had a mysterious "Hilda" who came to say hello and who was apparently "a friend of your father'.

It seemed to me that practically all my relations were Fire Wardens but one of my mother's sisters was missing.  I knew she lived down the same street as us so I searched using the street name and up popped "Hilda" who not only lived a few doors away from us but also worked as a crane driver   :o at the same factory as my dad who made them.

I have just read all your posts with great interest. Yes there are a lot of "fake" mediums out there who will take your money and tell you any old rubbish. There are also a lot of "genuine" mediums who do this work to bring comfort, healing and evidence of survival after physical death to people.
No they are not "nutters" but people from all walks of life who spend many years developing this gift.

I would suggest to anyone really interested to go along to their local Spiritualist Church/Centre - yes Spiritualism is a recognised religion in this country - and usually for a very small donation they may be very surprised at what they learn.

On the lighter side its not a short cut to genealogy - you have to do this for yourself as we all know.

Scotland has always been open to the Spiritual world.  My gg grandmother was known as a Scottish Fay, this has been past down to many family members.  Her son (my great grandfather) started the first Spiritual Church here in New Zealand.  Sadly a few nut cases do go there now, all about hugging trees and some very odd behavior, totally different to what it is really all about.  I think the real spiritualist can see through all that. ;D

I wonder what Hilda wanted?  And really why such a attachment?
