Advice on Actors?
« on: Monday 11 January 10 16:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone know any ways of tracking down the stage names of actors and actresses? I'm stuck!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Depending on the level of their fame I suppose, but have you seen these sites ?  :)

I should have mentioned that she was a music hall performer, circa 1914 with very little fame. Perhaps this is something that I'll have to live without finding out!

Thanks for the site though.

Hi,

I have used the "The Stage Archives" to track a few of my actor's /music hall performers - its a pay for view £5 for 24hrs - here is the link :

https://archive.thestage.co.uk/Default/Skins/TheStage/Client.asp?Skin=TheStage&enter=true&AppName=2&AW=1263236098255

Cheers

If you know what area and theatres she might have performed in you might get a clue from browsing the local press of the period (adverts and reviews); also local archives might have handbills or programmes. The Variety Artistes' Federation (VAF) was founded in 1906 - she may have joined. The Music Hall Artistes' Railway Association, founded in 1897, was a popular precursor.

Have found some bits on lesser known actors etc. in The Stage & Era magazines.

The Stage charges a min. of £5.00 for a 24 hrs pass.  More than enough time for these type of people.

Their archives can be a bit frustrating to search but well worth it.

Mine was an Actor/Comedian/Manager & his wife too was an Actor.  Found stuff on him in both & his wifes obit. in the Era. :)
