Durrant / Miller, Burwell
« on: Sunday 10 January 10 21:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I have a marriage for LUCY DURRANT and JOHN MILLER on 4 October 1812 in Burwell.
From the Cambs baptism index online I have found 3 children all baptised in Lode Baptists, i.e. Sophia 1817 (my connection); Lucy 1818 and Harriet 1821.  The IGI has John, 1813, baptised in Burwell.
The 1841 census (18A Back Lane, Burwell) has John, 50 a Thatcher; Lucy, 50; Sophia, James, David, Martha and Jonathan, all born Burwell.

Does anyone recognise this family and/or have any more information on the Durrants or Millers going back from Lucy and John?

Thanks for any help.
Yvonne

Not sure if you have the full details of the 1812 marriage but it stated that Lucy was of Reach.

The witnesses were Henry and Rose Miller.

There is a baptism at Burwell of a John Miller 8 May 1791 son of James and Rose.

James and Rose also baptised a Henry 12 Sept 1784 and a Rose 1 June 1789.

There is a marriage of James Miller bach to Rose Boar sp botp on 2 November 1777.

Will have another look around to see if I can see anything else.

I am replying on behalf of an Australian lady (who is not online!) who is descended from John Miller & Lucy Durrent via their son David born c1827 who emigrated to Australia on the "Lord Raglan" in 1854.  She would like to make contact and share information.  There is a family tradition in Australia that the family were Scottish but I don't think that is true!

Can we make contact please.

My apologies to Selina and Peter for not replying to your posts promptly.  Unfortunately, owing to various problems I was unable to do so before now.

Many thanks to Selina for all the information, this is terrific and a big help.  I did not have full details of the Durrant/Miller marriage so this fills in some gaps, thanks.

Peter, I am very interested in sharing information with your Australian friend.  Can you send me a private message here and I will give you my home email so that we can correspond that way.
I am also passing your message on to an American lady I recently made contact with via A******y
who probably has a lot more information than I do.

Hello Angeline
Lovely to hear from you.  Since I posted my original messsage here in 2010 I have found many, many cousins descended from this couple in Australia, Canada and the US.  As you are in that part of the world, I wonder if you know Doug Miller in Peterborough, Ontario?  He is descended from James, as you are, and has thoroughly investigated this family.  I would like to exchange information with you.  I have my tree on Ancestry.co.uk if you are able to look at that, I don't know.
Can you send me a private message here and then I will give my home email so that we can correspond that way.
Look forward to hearing about your side of the family.
Regards
Yvonne in Wales
